What is Search Engine Optimization?
Search engine optimization (usually shortened to SEO) simply means making your site more attractive to search engines like Google so it will be placed higher on the page of search results. The higher on the page, the more people click on it.
How it’s done
When someone does a search, Google looks for the best sites to answer that search—sites that work well, that are relevant and honest and well liked. You move up by showing Google that your site is one of them. You need:
Good Content. Does your site clearly show what your business is and what you do? Is the information original or is it duplicated on lots of other sites?
Good Reputation. How does your site look to the online world? Do lots of people come to it? Do other sites—including social media sites—pick up material from yours or add links to yours?
Good Programming. Is your site easy to navigate or is key information buried? Does it open quickly? Does it work well on phones?
Altogether, Google uses more than 200 different factors to decide where your site will be placed on their results page, and they tweak those factors almost every day.
